R&B radio in Philly used to ALWAYS play Force MD's as their throwbacks when I was a teenager. Though their biggest hit was "Tender Love" my personal favorite was "Love Is A House". If your not up on Force M.D.'s check out the video below.
The Run Down Released: 1987 Genre: R&B/Soul Label: TommyBoy Records Writer(s): Songwriters: Geoff Gurd, ; Gina Foster, ; Martin Lascelles, ;
""Love is a House" is a 1987 single by Force M.D.'s. Released on the band's Touch and Go album, the single was the group's third top ten hit on the Black Singles chart, and their most successful on that chart peaking at number one for two weeks, in the summer of 1987. "Love is a House" was also the group's second and final Hot 100 release, peaking at number seventy-eight" - Wikipedia
Umm Glen Lewis you left us just as fast as you came in?!? I thought he was going to blow up, but once again I was WRONG! If you dont remember Glen Lewis his video is below
Every time I hear this song I instantly smile. Chrisette captures the beauty of love in this joint. This is defiantly a contender as my one of my wedding songs. Read the lyrics below...
Love Is You By Chrisette Michele
What's your definition of it? How does it make you feel? Tell me what you say that truly makes it real Kings and Queens, Philosophers have tried so hard to find Tell me what it means to you dear, nevermind
Love is kind when the world is cold Love stays strong when the fight gets old Love's a shoulder to lean on Love is you Love's like the water when the well runs dry Quench my thirst, keep me alive Just need one sip baby Love is you Love is you, love is you, Love is you, love is you
Is it possible, there is a kiss that's so divine Or am I just a fool, is it all in my mind? Is there something chemical A scientist might say Well love must be a drug To make me feel this way
Cause love's my permission to be who I am No inhibitions cause you understand Freedom to breathe oh baby Love is you Love's like a kiss when the sun goes down Holds me tight when no one's around Love's what I want to hold on to Love is you
Love is you, Love is you, Love is you, Love is you, Love is you, Love is you, Love is you,
Love is kind, it makes me stronger I don't have to look no longer You're the one I cling to Love is you When the chips are down Love will stick around I'm so glad I found Love is you
As much as I've tried to clarify Love's quite simple, he's just my guy Perfect definition Love is you Love is you, love is you Love is you... is you...
Some people in the crew will never shine and I guess Drag-On was that token fella of Ruff Ryders. Everyone in that crew blew up even the freaking producer, Swizz Beatz, but Drag-On just didn't become the superstar that he's peers were. Here's his biggest solo hit "Niggas Die 4 Me"
The other day I was at the Secaucus train station and a song by Sting came on I immediately recognized it as the sample from Emotional by Carl Thomas. See if you can spot it yourself.
About a year ago my buddy told me he was making a song with J.Cole and I looked him up, but it never went any farther than that. I have yet to listen to any of his mixtapes and all I know is his verse in "Everyday A Star is Born" and "All I Want Is You". After I saw him perform live that will soon change. I'm not saying J.Cole is newest favorite rapper, but I defiantly gained more respect for him. Jay-Z taught him well about stage presence.
Gosh by golly Im soo soo busy. This college life has me neglecting my baby (this blog) but hopefully that will change once I get my schedule in order. Between my clubs, education, and job it's pretty darn hard 2 squeeze the blog into all of that. :-(
There are very few unsigned rappers that I dig. So few that I can count them on one hand, BUT I'm very passionate about Gilbere Forte. The first time I heard him he did a freestyle off of a Kanye beat, AND HE WAS BETTER THAN KANYE!!! Yes yes yes I said it... and ya'll know how I feel about my Kanye so that was huge deal.
Anyway I need you folks to do my a favor and VOTE for Gilbere's video "Black Chukkas" on MTVU. His music deserves to be on a major network. The link to vote is below and so is the video. Thanks in advance... love love loveeee you.
YOOO What happened to Jimmy Cozier?!? I really thought he was gonna blow up. I remember he came out around the same time as Alicia Keys and I honestly thought they would be the "Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell" of our time. Sheez I guess I was wrong. I hope he's still writing songs because he's defiantly talented.
Typically Imagination by Ella Fitzgerald isn't a jazz song, but what can I say I'm hard headed. My name is Imag and my mixtape is called Use Your Imagination so of course I had post this joint. It's an old blues song and when I thought about jazz music this came to mind. Take a listen.
Some lyrics that speak volumes to me is The Light by Common. You can just tell when an MC is being sincere about what he writes and Common did just that. Check out the song and the lyrics below.
The Light by Common
I never knew a luh, luh-luh, a love like this Gotta be somethin for me to write this Queen, I ain't seen you in a minute Wrote this letter, and finally decide to send it Signed sealed delivered for us to grow together Love has no limit, let's spend it slow forever I know your heart is weathered by what studs did to you I ain't gon' assault em cause I probably did it too Because of you, feelings I handle with care Some niggaz recognize the light but they can't handle the glare You know I ain't the type to walk around with matchin shirts If relationship is effort I will match your work I wanna be the one to make you happiest, it hurts you the most They say the end is near, it's important that we close.. .. to the most, high Regardless of what happen on him let's rely
There are times.. when you'll need someone.. I will be by your side.. There is a light, that shines, special for you, and me..
Yo, yo, check it It's important, we communicate and tune the fate of this union, to the right pitch I never call you my bitch or even my boo There's so much in a name and so much more in you Few understand the union of woman and man And sex and a tingle is where they assume that it land But that's fly by night for you and the sky I write For in these cold Chi night's moon, you my light If heaven had a height, you would be that tall Ghetto to coffee shop, through you I see that all Let's stick to understandin and we won't fall For better or worse times, I hope to me you call So I pray everyday more than anything friends will stay as we begin to lay this foundation for a family - love ain't simple Why can't it be anything worth having you work at annually Granted we known each other for some time It don't take a whole day to recognize sunshine
There are times.. when you'll need someone.. I will be by your side, oh darling There is a light, that shines, special for you, and me..
Yeah.. yo, yo, check it It's kinda fresh you listen to more than hip-hop and I can catch you in the mix from beauty to thrift shop Plus you ship hop when it's time to, thinkin you fresh Suggestin beats I should rhyme to At times when I'm lost I try to find you You know to give me space when it's time to My heart's dictionary defines you, it's love and happiness Truthfully it's hard tryin to practice abstinence The time we committed love it was real good Had to be for me to arrive and it still feel good I know the sex ain't gon' keep you, but as my equal it's how I must treat you As my reflection in light I'ma lead you And whatever's right, I'ma feed you Digga-da, digga-da, digga-da, digga-digga-da-da Yo I tell you the rest when I see you, peace
There are times.. when you'll need someone.. I will be by your side.. There is a light, that shines, special for you, and me..
(I'll) take my chances.. before they pass.. .. pass me by, oh darling.. You need to look at the other side.. You'll agree..
The sample I chose was a dope joint from UGK called International Players Anthem. They sampled a classic soulful ballad from Willie Hutch titled I Choose You. You can hear the sample as soon as both songs start.
I got a chance 2 interview this DC rapper named Imag... He just came out with a cool mixtape. Im not a big on hip-hop, but its worth listen. Check out the audio below and the link to his mixtape "Use Your Imagination"
Upside A diverse mix of music
Downside He does this "singing but Im still rapping" thing that ppl like Diddy n Chris Brown do n it drives me crazy.
WOOOOO! This Wale mixtape is pure greatness. Now lets not fool ourselves Mixtape About Nothing was better, but this is definatly a good follow-up. Of course the mixtape features classic lines from one of my favorite shows, Sienfeld. The mixtape starts out strong with DJ Omega killing a DeBarge sample (which was amazing), the next track has an infamous go-go feel and from there the rest is history.
My Favorite Tracks: The Problem Friends and Strangers The Number Won The Black N Gold
Drawbacks I dont dig that spoken word ish that Wale does:-| ... n I could have done without that Wocka feature.
Sooo I've made several post about a young talented artist that goes by the name Miguel... and I hate to say I told you so, but I def told ya'll he was gonna do some damage and truth be told he's just getting started. Since my 1st post, back in January of 2009, he has co-written the hit "If You Leave" by Musiq n Mary J. and he played a key role in User's newest album Raymond Vs. Raymond. Not only is he a dope songwriter/singer, he also has such a delightful eclectic spirit.
**Random fact: Miguel barely listens to R&B music.
Check out his newest single "All I Want Is You" ft. J.Cole and an archive of all my blogs I've written that feature him.
It's been a very longgg time since I had my hands on some new music. I'm def diggin the Johnta track. It's been a while since I heard some music I liked from him and the Drake song issss... well it's typical Drake.
Below is Bow Wow's newest video featuring Sean Kingston called "Put That On My Hood" ... now let's be serious for a sec readers.. aint Bow Wow from Ohio?!? He better stop!
I always google anyone I post on the blog. So the other day I did a wiki on Case before I posted Would You Like A Sample on 'Touch Me, Tease Me'. In his discography I saw he had a minor hit in 2001 after "Missing You" called "Not Your Friend". Let me be the 1st to tell you this was my JAM back in the day. I looked up the video and it brought back memories of me recording music videos on my VHS and watching BET shows like Cita's World, Hits From The Street, and Midnight Love (or w/e it was called). AHHHH the good old days. =)
I kinda thought there were more samples to 'Live Fast, Die Young'. I guess my ears fooled me. #KanyeShrug lol ... Anyway you can hear the Kid Dynamite sample 3:03 to 3:08 into'Uphill Peace of Mind' and the James Brown sample is found :10 into 'Funky President'
I loveee old jazz music so I decided to start a new segment entitled "A Touch of Jazz"... Below is a hit from Lonnie Liston Smith called A Garden of Peace. Check it out below... ohh and if it sounds familiar to you that's because it was sampled by Mary J. Blige "Take Me Ad I Am", Jay-Z "Dead Presidents", and Total "Rain" just to name a few.
I know Im not da only person who remembers Allen Strange when it came on SNICK... well I keep spotting da fella who played Allen in these Motorola commercials and every time I see him I get excited. GO ALLEN!!!
YO! If you know all the lyrics to "This Is The Way I Live" by Baby Boy da Prince please pick up a book and do something productive with your life. Some how this song randomly popped in my head when I was thinking about Lil Boosie "ALL DA GURLS LOVE ME MANNEEEEE" lol
Yo Missy where you been at? I saw you on that Chilli show, but I need some music from you! Not just some lil ad libs on a Jasmine Sullivan song or a verse on a Ciara song either. I need the classic Supa Dupa Fly Missy in my life. To be honest I listen 2 pre-'Work It'/ Chubby Missy atleast once a week. Come flood my ears with that good eclectic music that you make soooo dag on well.
Below is one of my fav songs from Missy. It was released before I even knew how 2 have sex, in fact I thought she was talking about a guy who only kisses for one minute lol. Check it out below.
I saw this picture on a Kanye West forum n started cracking up! I hate the Lakers with all out passion, but I pray they get another ring next season just so Lebron can learn a cold hard lesson. You're a back 2 back MVP! You don't leave your team 4 new guys... u get ur team 2 bring you what you need!
I know this is soo random, but shout out 2 Ashley Jordan for giving me dat extra push 2 stay up til 4 am 2 work on my blog! You're words really stuck 2 me fella... Also special thanks to Antonio, Zay, Kerry Ann, Will Simon, Marcus, Babb, and LB 4 neva making me 4get about da blog dat I love so much.
Would You Like A Sample seems to be a favorite amongst you folks so I HAD to give you folks a great deal since I've been gone for so long. "Wild Flower" by Hank Crawford is a classic and this one jazz song has been sampled by a number of rappers. Most recently it's been Drake with "Miss Me" (heard at 1:42-1:44), but "Drive Slow" by Kanye, "Dreams" by J Cole, "Shorty Wanna Be A Thug" by Tupac, and "No Ones Iller" by Eminem have all featured this song!
"Live Like We're Dying" by Kris Allen is MY JAM!!! When it comes on I scream the hook like a crazy woman lol. It's so motivational and makes me feel so free. If you've never heard this song take a listen.
I totally adore early 90's Toni Braxton and "Breathe Again" holds a place in my heart because it's exactly how I felt when I went through my 1st major break up as an adult. I've since moved on from that situation, but every time I hear this song it always reminds me how bad love can hurt. (BTW I have a nice collection of songs that let me kno how great love can feel as well lol.)
Breathe Again
Toni Braxton
If I never feel you in my arms again
If I never feel your tender kiss again
If I never hear I love you now and then
Will I never make love to you once again
Please understand if love ends
Then I promise you, I promise you
That, that I shall never breathe again
Breathe again
Breathe again
That I shall never breathe again
Breathe again
And I can't stop thinkin' about
About the way things used to be
And I can't stop thinkin' about
About the love that you make to me
And I can't get you outta my head
How in the world will I begin
To let you walk right out my life
And blow my heart away
And I can't stop carin' about
About the apple of my eye
And I can't stop doin' without
Without the center of my life
And I can't get you outta my head
And I know I can't pretend
That I won't die if you decide
You won't see me again
If I never feel you in my arms again
If I never feel your tender kiss again
If I never hear I love you now and then
Will I never make love to you once again
Please understand if love ends
Then I promise you, I promise you
That, that I shall never breathe again
Breathe again
Breathe again
That I shall never breathe again
Breathe again
And I can't stop thinkin' about
About the way my life would be
No I can't stop thinkin' about
How could your love be leavin' me
And I can't get you outta my mind
God knows how hard I tried
And if you walk right out my life
God knows I'd surely die
And I can't stop doin' without
Without the rythm of my heart
No I can't stop doin' without
For I would surely fall apart
And I can't get you outta my mind
Cause I know I can't deny it
And I would die if you decide
You won't see me again
If I never feel you in my arms again
If I never feel your tender kiss again
If I never hear I love you now and then
Will I never make love to you once again
Please understand if love ends
Then I promise you, I promise you
That, that I shall never breathe again
Breathe again
Breathe again
That I shall never breathe again
Breathe again
I've been lunching on this blog! Over the course of 24 hours five people told me I need to update Gosh By Golly and damn it Imma give the people what they want! I got inspired last night when I heard Killa Cam on the radio soooo here goes something. Below is a new joint from Busta Rhymes ft. Camron, DMX, Ghostface, Swizz Beatz & T.I. called Stop The Party Remix. It's not the best song ever, but I need some new Cam n DMX in my life again.
School is OVERRRR n I got a good job booked so I couldn't think of an even greater way 2 start up the blog 4 the summer season than 2 talk about my fav artist n da whole wide world, Kanye West and his next album Good Ass Job. Below r some articles about the new album and my fav song by Mr.West, "Peace".
Despite previous indications that it would drop in June, new reports reveal that Kanye West's next projects might not hit stores until September.
According to TheHipHopUpdate.com, Ye's album, tentatively titled Good-Ass Job, may be pushed back to the fall release date. The report comes from an attendee at the Island Def Jam Grammy U. event on Wednesday (May 12). No further specifics were given regarding the release date, though it appears that the album certainly won't be dropping next month.
Other tidbits from the event revealed a September release date for Ne-Yo, and that Los Angeles rapper Y.G. "will be a focus of Def Jam in the near future."

Details remain scarce about Kanye West's Good Ass Job, but apparently it is his best hip-hop record yet. At least, that's what Drake implied in an interview with GQ Magazine. And it's likely that Yeezy is making his return to hip-hop and leaving the Auto-Tune behind after 808s & Heartbreaks. But don't be surprised if the vocal effect makes an appearance here or there as it's been featured on every one of his albums in some way or another. Good Ass Job, which finishes Kanye's "college series," is set to feature Big Sean, who confirmed his guest spot via Twitter. It's also likely we'll see frequent collaborators like Common and Mos Def along with newcomers such as Drake and KiD CuDi. The album will also include beats from outside producers, something West had done before. This time around, he will be joined by RZA, Pete Rock, and DJ Premier, the last of whom provided scratches on "Everything I Am" off Graduation. ~ Andrew Martin of prefixmag.com
I really dig "Never Gonna Break Up" by Ryan Leslie. Though I've been bumpin it for the past year, I've never posted the lyrics on the blog. The lyrics hit home for me when ever 1 of my dudes r acting up lol j/k. But I figured what better way to revive "Jazmyn's Lyric"....
